Introduction of Solids with Dietitian and Nutritionist

Registered dietitian and nutritionist to help introduce solid food to your baby

Enlist the help of a registered dietitian and nutritionist to receive guidance, support and latest evidence-based information to help introduce your child to solids.

How can a dietitian and nutritionist help introduce solids?

Introduction to solids is a transitional stage that typically begins when an infant reaches the age of 4-6 months old. As a parent, especially a first-time parent, this can be an overwhelming time as there is an abundance of information available from several varying opinions.

Consulting a registered dietitian who focuses on pediatric nutrition on this topic can help provide clarity and guidance on the most up-to-date information to help your child transition to solids as seamlessly as possible.

A registered dietitian can provide assistance with the following:

  • Provide education on the progression of introduction to solids (i.e. what order to introduce foods in, texture progression, amounts of foods to offer, etc.), which includes guidance on fluid progression as well.
  • Offer guidance as to how to prevent food allergies when introducing solid foods.
  • Discuss the balance of breastfeeding and/or formula feeding in addition to solids.
  • Provide recipes and resources on meal and snack ideas for infants eating a variety of foods, as well as those with dietary restrictions re: allergies, ethical preferences, cultural preferences, religious preferences, etc.
  • Explain nutritional needs based on age and offer supplement suggestions as needed.
  • Provide tips on preventing picky eating tendencies and promoting a healthy relationship with food as your child ages.
  • Offer meal planning strategies for the family to ensure that you are all able to eat together and reap the social benefits of doing so.
  • Provide nutritional support to moms to help address a variety of co-existing conditions: work with a PCOS nutritionist, weight loss nutritionist, and more.
  • And more.
